A How-To on How-To-Be-Happy

Mission

There is no guide on the right way to migrate our loved ones with Autism into a society that is not built for their abilities. The ability to warm us with their presence without words. The ability to give us a feeling of purpose and admiration simply by walking in their proximity. This is The Sea President’s Journal, a newsletter that will share different coping and calming methods I have tried with my brother. Though everyone is different and there is no single solution, this journal could help readers find a new method they are unfamiliar with that may better their loved ones. Welcome crew mates, to the Sea President’s Ship!

Let’s ride against the current together to find calmer waters

You will notice three tabs in the top right, here is a quick description.

  1. The Crisis Guide – Use this if your crew mate encounters rocky seas. This can be anxiety, a meltdown, etc. Use this guide to bring them back to baseline.
  2. The Map of the Seas – this will serve as a life road map on all the checkpoints in life. What programs to enroll your crew mate in, what resources to look for and how to find them, and ultimately a treasure map to the best life we can provide as members of this ship.
  3. The Life Boat – As members of this ship, you are strong, loving, and a powerful part of this journey. Remember that you ride the same waves as your crew mate, and for us to be the best navigator for them, you need to take care of yourself too!

Journal Entry #1 : Leaving the Docks

In our world there are many seas, tides, and currents. Sometimes the wind blows against us, and we have to drop the sails and start to row. For our crew mates, life in our society in much like rowing towards a persistent wind. Our world is constantly advancing in way to “make life easier” and more accessible to the majority. But what of those who will always have to rip against the tide? The seas are unpredictable, and sometimes the obstacle in our way is another ship.

This website is not meant to be a one stop shop solution to all the challenges you will face. Rather, it will serve as a shared method of on how my family and I have attempted to build a path where my brother can ride with his sails up. Go with the flow and ride with the breeze.
